The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has called on faith-based organizations, including the Celestial Church of Christ, to comply with noise pollution regulations.
NESREA’s Director-General, Dr. Innocent Barikor, emphasized the need for religious institutions, nightclubs, and other establishments to adhere to environmental laws. Speaking through Mr. Elijah Udofia, Director of Environmental Quality Control, he stated:
“The purpose of these regulations is to ensure that the citizenry has access to a quiet environment. These regulations set noise limits for different locations at different times.”
He urged Nigerians to report noise pollution complaints for swift intervention, adding that NESREA has received multiple complaints from churches, mosques, and other sources nationwide.
Barikor assured that the agency remains committed to enforcing the National Environmental (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2009, and will continue public sensitization efforts to ensure compliance.
