Sermon For Friday Service || Topic: The Gains of Self Control (21st Aug, 2015)

You are welcome to the Celestial Church Blog weekly sermon on Fridays. How has your week been?

The text for the week is Genesis 39 verses 9-23. The topic is "The Gains of Self Control"

There are three major Characters in the story. Potiphar, Potiphar's wife and Joseph. I shall be concentrating on Joseph.

Self- Control is the ability to control one's emotions, behaviour and desires in the face of external demands in order to function in society.

The gains of self control with Joseph as our Case Study include the following:

1. People with high self control are happier because it helps them deal better with goal conflict. Psalm 146:5

2. Truthfulness is a major feature of self control. It is also a benefit. Exodus 18:21, Psalm 119:142

3. Another benefit of self control is that it enhances mental focus and the ability to ignore anxious thoughts.

4. People with self control are popularly respected.

5. Self control strengthens our relationship with God and fellow men.

6. It enables us to achieve our set goals.

7. A self controlled person is a readily made tool of the Holy Spirit. Luke 12:12, 3:22

Self control is the ninth fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:23).

Pursue it, build it and maintain it. You will be glad you did. Titus 1:7-8 Shalom.
