A recently released 99 paged report on Nigerian Churches by Alder consulting has identifies various problems bedeviling the nation and the church. The report which features the thoughts of Leke Alder, Pastor Godman Akinlabi, Praise Fowowe, Oyinkansola Alabi, Chude Jideonwo and Damola Morenikeji, proffers solutions to the identified problems.

In his submission, Leke Alder charges Christians to concentrate more on principalities and powers, who are the cause of most of the problems afflicting the nation because of the various policy misdirections introduced by them.

Alder wrote that “Principalities are the political strategists, the Powers have executive power. They’re in charge of governments and nations. They influence policy and coordinate national programs. We’ve been concentrating on non-political actors like witches and wizards, when we should be concentrating on the Principalities and Powers. They’re in charge of policy misdirections in Nigeria. Wars, rumours of war, coups, anarchy, unrests, insurgencies, economic meltdowns and leadership ineptitude are coordinated by the Powers.”
He encouraged the church to take up necessary and strategic actions in order to wrestle the nation from the hands of these groups governing from high political places.

In his thought, Pastor Godman Akinlabi argued that the church have been shying away from helping the needy as Christ did. He said Jesus was never contended with people having mediocre life experiences.

Akinlabi wrote that the church has the responsibility to not only preach the gospel, but it must work to serve the suffering people of Nigeria. He observed that this can be done if the church organise career fairs, create fora for single parents, involve skill-training workshop, sponsor the needy to school amongst others.

On what’s church got to do with it? Sex and Sexuality in Nigeria, Praise Fowowe noted that most Nigerian churches shy away from discussing about the negative impact of sex with their youth.

He encouraged the church to embark on creativity solutions that will mitigate against critical problems of sexuality, as organising prayer meetings to bind the spirit of sexual immorality among Nigerian youth is not enough.
