The establishment of the Church in Sokoto State was not as easy as anyone would think, as the pioneer members who started Celestial Church in the Caliphate State experienced hinderance from a government agency in the state.

In a publication titled The Glorious Tree and Its Branches, exclusively given to Celestial Church Blog by the author, Sister Bukola Matthew, the Youth Sisters' Coordinator for the state.

The first fellowship and worship of the Church was held in 1976 in the house of Late Evangelist Baba Omosun, at the Staff Quarters of the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).

Those who worship at the NBC Staff Quarters were Late Evangelist Adeleye, Late Evangelist Adebiyi, Evangelist Akinloye Matthew, Evangelist Akinyemi, Evangelist Olabiyi and Professor Idowu.
"After two years of worship, they built and moved to project area, Sokoto State as their new place of worship, which was then, a barrack of the army in the year 1978" Sister Bukola said.

However, a piece of land was brought around the old airport for the Church by Evangelist Olabiyi, who was the Manager of the First Bank Branch in Sokoto State.

Sadly, the devil waged a war, as Sokoto State Urban and Regional Planning Board (SURPB) opined that a Church was not to be built there, because a mosque is some distance away from the land, therefore they would not approve a building permit.

Notwithstanding, some spiritually zealous members called to God, and he touched the heart of those in SURPB, and they finally gave approval for the Church to be built.

The Church was named Celestial Church of Christ Parish 1. Due to this, proper church worship started, with the following as the pioneer members of the Choir, Evangelist Oru, as the Choir Master, Evangelist Akinbobola, MC Adeleye, MC Matthew, MC Oluwole, MC Fabiyi and Sister Margaret.

After this, more parishes emerged in the state and also in neighbouring towns in other states such as in Birnin Kebbi, Zuru, Gusua, Kontongora and other part of Northern Nigeria.
