If you attend a Parish with over 200+ congregants, you many never understand that there are a lot of Parishes with very large auditorium, yet hardly witness more than 50 congregants during Sunday service. Although there are various factors which contribute to low attendance at these parishes.

In this post, we have highlighted 5 things Parishes could do to improve attendance.

1. Be Liberal when you discipline

Discipline is paramount among Christian faithfuls and this must be enforced in parishes, but it is pertinent to note that unreasonable discipline, such as biased criticism and condemnation, which may often be accomplished with disquietude will lead to resentments which will intimidate congregants and possibly make them lose concentration during services and whenever they are within the Church premises. With time these congregants will have no choice than to leave the parish and proceed to another.

2. Good Preachers

Congregants will always want to stay in parishes where they will listen to undiluted words of God. Truth be told, most congregants do not come to terms with the sermons they receive during all the services which the Church observe. Any parish which is interested in quenching the thirst of her congregation in the word of God, must allocate sermons to only those who are very vast with the application of Bible Scriptures during sermons. Not just ordinary sermons, where history and stories will be told, but those that are applicable to the present situation of the listening congregation.

3. Location matters

Although this does not necessary count for some parishes, Calvary 1 Parish which is situated in Aguda Ogba in Lagos State is a good example. Poor location is a great disadvantage to most parishes. Of what use is siting a parish far away from the major road or Bus Stop?

4. Accommodate the youth

Any parish that intend having a reasonable congregation must accommodate the youth. This will also help the parish maintain longevity. Parishes could accommodate their youth by organizing youth programmes, allowing their youth opportunities to attend other youth programmes within the Church and catering for their reasonable needs.

5. Close Early

Majorly people prefer to attend parishes that close early. We agree that the Holy Spirit leads and should decide when services should be over, but we also know that some delays are caused by our actions.

6. Good gospel music

This do not need any explanation.
