Adapting to Nigeria's current economic crisis is simply the smartest thing to do during an economic recession. Below are some things to cut down during this period.

1. Eating out

Anyone who actually cooks will know that restaurants serve overpriced, often unsatisfying food. So instead of taking your hard earned money to pay for ‘fancy’ food, go to the market, buy raw food and head to the kitchen. You will save so much money.

2. Driving walkable distances

The cost of fuel is higher than it has ever been in Nigeria’s history, so why not kill two birds with one stone while going for short errands. Take a walk or go for a run while running your errand. Your body and pockets will thank you.

3. New clothes and shoes

Look, that old clothes of yours are still perfectly fine. People don't really notice how long you had been wearing a particular piece of cloth. This is not the season to impress people with new clothes as long as the old one are not obviously tattered.

4. Pay Tv Subscription (Gotv, Dstv, Star Times etc)

Truth be told, you do not watch all the channels on your Pay Television. Why subscribe for all the full subscription plans. It’s not a competition. You hardly ever watch more than 7 channels? During this recession period it is better you subscribe for the smallest subscription plan that has news channels and Nollywood channels for the grown-ups and cartoons for the kids.

5. Water as opposed to juice and sodas

Most of these processed drinks you desire to gulp down your throat with every meal are not even good for your health and they definitely cost more than water. Drink water, you’ll live longer.

6. Phone Calls

Restrict your airtime to calls with purpose (work, business). Make use of the numerous instant messaging services and chat your way with friends and family members.
