Last Sunday, the video of a female member of Celestial Church of Christ bearing a rifle went viral on social media with debate for and against the action. This unidentified woman's action won't be unconnected to the attack of a St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria by terrorists suspected to be the Islamic State's West Africa Province.


However, the Church has condemned the action insisting that it will make use of prayer to solve the insecurity currently bedeviling the country, while also collaborating with relevant security agencies.

A statement by Superior Evangelist Kayode Ajala on behalf of the Church noted that while the Church is worried about the security situation in the country as it affects Christians, the bearing of weapons in the Church must be condemned.

"While the Celestial Church of Christ is not unconcerned about the disturbing security situation in the country and the risks to which worshippers are exposed... We must condemn very strongly the action of this yet to be identified female member of the Church who bore arms in Church during a Sunday service."

Ajala mentioned that the Church is not a militant group or a security outfit, hence it will only work with approved government security agencies to help ensure that its worship centres are secure across the country.

The statement further disassociates the Church from any form of violence, claiming "the Celestial Church of Christ does not encourage members to bear arms to Church, neither do we encourage our members to take the law into their hands under any situation."

The Church emphasized that it will not relent in praying for the improvement of the security situation in the country.
