Debo Magbagbeola speaks with Superior Evangelist Awodiya on how the security situation in the Northern part of Nigeria is affecting the Church.

How did you become a Celestian?

Well, the conversion can be traced as far back as 1980/81. A friend of mine describe this Parish (CCC Orisun Iye, Samaru), to me when my daughter was having health challenges.

I came to sought the help of God and He answered me. That was how I permanently remained here even after my daughter's deliverance.

How do you feel when you were asked to move to Kaduna to Shepherd a Parish while your contemporaries are in the big cities?

Well, one thing I believe is this, the command of God must be duly obeyed. Let's check out the army (military), once a troop is commanded to go somewhere, they dare not complain even if the living condition of the place is not known or bad.

Even if it is the most dangerous zone during the war, they must obey the command. So how much more the command of the Almighty. As soon as we (Shepherds) agree to serve God in His vineyard, we obey every command.

How does the security challenges affects members and how does Shepherding a Parish in the North look like?

Sincerely, from my perspective, it is not easy at all. Most committed members have relocated to the South West or their states of origin, due to the security challenges in the North.

Some members don't even wait for retirement before they resign and relocate. Other members don't even come to Church again on Sundays because of the fear of terrorist attack. But we are praying and edifying members not to fear because God is our protector.

Some wealthy members have also relocated also. The Church monthly incomes is reducing and remittance is reducing also. All these makes it a little bit difficult in stabilizing the Shepherd's pocket (laughing). Anyways security has ripple effect on everyone.

What other challenges do the Parish face?

Very good question. I have been expecting you to ask this. First and foremost, the Parish (CCC Orisun Iye, Samaru)is the 3rd founding Parish in the whole Northern Nigeria.

The publicity of the Church is not okay (both from CCC and the Parish itself). Most students join other denominations after searching for their a parish, but to no avail. Most student who come here found it on their own.

The Church need more members (youths, students and adults). Most choirs are yet to be standard, more instruments are needed and the Church structures needs face lifting.

I implore CCC W/W to fund some special parishes like ours, because it is meant to take care of students Spiritual and Physical needs as well as the welfare of people around.

I also implore other CCC members all over the world to remember this Parish and all the other Parishes in prayer.

Thank you very much and God of Celestial will bless us all.
