Hope and Faith in God
When you pray have the hope in God that your prayers will be answered. Praying without faith and hope is a waste of time. See what Apostle Paul adviced the Romans to do in Romans 12:12 "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
He further explain in 1Corinthians 13:13 that hope, faith and love are great entities needed in the life of sons. Hymn 542 of our hymn book, gives an insight on asking in faith to receive heavenly reward.
Humility
Humility is a key factor that draws the love and attention upon us as sons, God resists the proud and loves the humble. A prayer offered to God in total humility springs him up to look down upon our wounds and heal us.
According to 2Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Praying with the right motive
According to James 4:3 "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."
When you ask God for something outside His will for your life it means you wish to consume what you ask on lust, and the scripture advices us to flee from lusts.
