The longest serving claimant of the pastoral seat of the church, Reverend Josiah Owodunni has reiterated that Reverend SBJ Oshoffa chose a successor before his death as enshrined in the church's constitution which states that the "incumbent of the post of Pastor will appoint his own succession".

Owodunni who made this known at a press conference held to mark the 70th anniversary of the church.

While addressing the press, Reverend Owodunni was quoted by Vanguard Newspaper as saying:

"When he (Oshoffa) translated on September 20, 1985 at an Ilupeju private hospital, it became clear that all his preaching about a choice of successor was not going to be respected. What he had provided as the mode and manner for the choice of his successor were thrown to the wings.

"However on his death, members of this fold resolved that they will make their own choice on who will be their Pastor, contrary to the provision in the church’s constitution which stipulates that the incumbent of the post of Pastor will appoint his own succession. Rather, members faked spiritual messages to impose their own will on the church."

Reverend Josiah Owodunni had always maintained that the founding pastor of the church chose him as the one to lead the fold after his demise, but Reverend Alexander Bada was chosen over him by the church's first Board of Trustee.
