You do not need to worry that you are the only one who sleeps with your phone very close by his or her side, as a survey conducted by Pew Internet Project and published on health.com reveals that 44% of phone owners do have their phones by there side while asleep, mostly because they do not want to miss any crucial calls or texts.

Better still most of us in countries where power supply isn't consistent, keep it close so as to have it handy when we wake up while it is still dark.

Despite these reasons, it is important that you keep your phones away from you while sleeping because of the following reasons:

1. You could set your pillow or yourself on fire

In United States, a teenager who had her phone under her pillow woke up to a burning smell. The phone was partially melted and the bedsheets and mattress were slightly burned.

2. You could keep yourself awake

Electronic gadgets, such as our phones have what is known as blue light. This light emits wavelengths similar to daylight, which can make our bodies think it’s daytime, at any time.

To fall asleep easily, when you want and need to, power down (put off) all electronics gadgets near you.

3. The health risks

Your phone do give off a little amount of electromagnetic radiation, which could lead to tumor growth in high amounts.





Therefore, it is best you hold your phone away from your ear when making calls, better still use a handfree (earpiece). Also, do not put your phone next to your head when asleep, put it far away.
