A parish of the church has been set ablaze by some angry youth in Bayan Dutse, Narayi community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday.

This irresponsible and condemnable action was caused as a result of the drowning of a youth, Sylvester Friday (21) while engaging in construction work in the church premises alongside the Shepherd of the parish.

The construction work in the parish was initiated by the Shepherd of the parish, a 78-year-old prophet, Steven Babatunde Shittu, who was worried by the approaching rainy season and engaged a Sylvester to build a fence to serve as a shield against floodwaters from a river so close to the parish.

According to people around, during the course of the construction work, Sylvester was said to have gone to draw water from the river, never to returned alive.

The intolerable youth demanded explanation from the Shepherd, suspecting that Sylvester was used for ritual (a act Celestial Church of Christ is against), but the Shepherd sensing that the youth might harm him, ran to a police station nearby to seek protection. This angered the youth the more, as they mobilised to burn down the parish and an SUV belonging to a church member parked at the premises.
