The process of becoming shepherds in the church is so lax and uncoordinated, as a result many unprofessional, non spiritual and less psychologically prepared shepherds are on the increase in the church.

In an open letter to the pastors in the church, Leader Samuel Williams warned against the increasing rate of new shepherds in the church as most of the claims by the new shepherds as been called by God is not authentic.

"Sirs the rate at which shepherdhood is increasing in CCC is alarming, over the past few years shepherd have increased in numbers, but what worries is the authenticity of the calling." he said.

He queried the suddeness in which the 'onigbode' (Sidesmen), prophets and wealthy individuals become shepherds and set up parishes of their own without anyone verifying if they were truly called.

"In recent years, many have become shepherd all of a sudden, most onibode’s who know little spiritual work run to start a parish, a prophet who God is meant to be used in a parish, run to start a parish, an elder who is wealthy run to start a parish, but who verifies their calling spiritually?"

He advised that "before anyone takes up sherpherdhood, it must be verified by those in the hierarchy of the church with spiritual guidance if not, we will continue to have bad sherpherd, babalawo in sutana and so on. If nothing is done urgently I fear for the worst."
