In an article accessing the reason majority of the members of the Board of Trustees of the Church in Nigeria publicly declared their misunderstanding with the chairman of the board, Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa, Adeyemi Cole explained that the past and current imbroglio among members of the Church’s Board of Trustees is as a result of the attempt by the founder of the Church, Reverend Samuel Bilewu to be diplomatic with things of the spirit.

He argued that Oshoffa noticed that members of the Board of Trustees and clergies around him were ambitious, thus it was difficult to declare and make the needed amendments to the constitution in respect to who should be the next in line after the founder.

“The ambition of those around him both Trustee and Clergy (sic) prevented them from making the needed amendment to the CCC constitution, Adeyemi noted.

He further mentioned that: “Papa SBJO was being spiritually diplomatic when he stated that the Holy Spirit will appoint his successor. Papa already noticed the infighting amongst his immediate followers to succeed him after his death. That was the reason for the heavy protest when he gave Pastor A.A. Bada the title of Supreme Evangelist.

“He was Papa's second in command. Papa referred to him as Ekeji mi, or Apa Otun mi. That generated envy particularly amongst the members of the Trustees. Papa SBJO's response, Emi lo ma yan eniti o tele mi, (the Holy Spirit will choose who will lead after me) was an attempt to douse tension amongst the immediate senior clergymen who were already scheming and jostling for position.

“He buttered it by saying the selection will not be by age, position or the time the person joined Celestial Church. . .  Since no one can claim he was there when the Holy Spirit names the successor, any one selected as Pastor can be successfully challenged in a court of law. If you bring your Woli, I will bring mine. That is what has happened to date.”
