Currently the Celestial Church of Christ is a member of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), but this was not so during the lifetime of the founder of the Church, Samuel Beliewu Oshoffa, says Temitope Majaiyeyomi in an opinion piece on the Church's membership of the association.

Majaiyeyomi observed that most of those who were in the charge of the Church after the demise of the founder spoiled and changed so many things about the Church as with their self wisdom rather than through the dictates of the Holy Spirit.

She mentioned that while Oshoffa was alive, an offer was made by the association to the founder, requesting the Church to be its member, but Oshoffa declined the offer.

"During SBJO time, Christian Association of Nigeria came to him, that CCC should joined them. Papa refused, and said to them. We are Celestial… Àwa o ki nṣe ẹgbẹ." (We do not join groups).

Majaiyeyomi also revealed that aside from CAN, other groups came and the founder declined too.

'Some set of people came again to SBJO, as we were told, that we should join the theological school. SBJO declined the invitation."

She opined that Oshoffa knew why he declined the offer for the Church to join these groups.

"SBJO that refuses their invitation during his time, knows what he was doing. But many of those that surrounded him then, doesn't know much. During that period,Celestial Church of Christ was filled with Holy Spirit 100%. Unlike these days. Papa warned them against CAN."
