Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa and M/S/E Banjo court case,
Rev. Emmanuel Oshoffa and M/S/E Banjo

The legal battle over the control of the Church's Board of Trustees by the two breakaway factions from the Ketu faction, the Most Superior Evangelist Samson Banjo popularly called Baba Banjo versus the Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa has taken a new turn.

On Monday 27th June, the Federal High Court was to begin sitting over the case, after a series of adjournments, but unfortunately the court couldn't seat, therefore the case was again adjourned to 13th October.

However, the Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa led faction has filed a court process against the Baba Banjo led faction over what it described as the contemptuous actions of the plaintiffs.

According to the Legal Dictionary of The Free Dictionary, a contemptuous action is "an act of deliberate disobedience or disregard for the laws, regulations, or decorum of public authority, such as a court or legislative body."

The faction said it is doing so as a result of an advert published on pages 16 and 17 on 14th June in the Punch Newspaper by Baba Banjo's faction.

In the advert, the faction loyal to the oldest member of the Church's Board of Trustees, advised the members of the Church and the general public not to transact and deal with the Reverend Emmanuel faction, because it is an illegitimate group.

The EMF's faction sees the newspaper publication as an attempt by the Baba Banjo's faction to make it irrelevant and dent its image as government agencies and corporate organisations will be wary of dealing with them.

In a statement, the head of publicity for the EMF's faction, Superior Evangelist Kayode Ajala maintained that the action of the Baba Banjo's faction goes against the July 7th, 2021 ruling of the court which advised all parties in the suit to maintain status quo antebellum (a position that existed before going to the court).

Ajala therefore advised members of the Church to disregard the newspaper publication because it is aimed at causing confusion and disaffection within the Church.

The Banjo's faction had gone to court to seek redress and to ask the court to set aside the decision of Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Friday Oshoffa to remove Most Superior Evangelist Banjo, Superior Evangelist Pius Olarewaju, Superior Evangelist Bola Akinterinwa and Superior Evangelist Okaisabor from the Church Board of Trustees and appoint other members to replace them.

Since the commencement of the court case, both factions have been accusing each other of engaging in contemptuous actions and delay tactics.
