This post looks at the lessons learnt from the arguments for and against the visit of the newly installed Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land, Otunba Gani Adams to one of the parishes of the Church, Genesis Model Parish for a thanksgiving service.

1. Landlord Shepherd are Ketu's albatross

As the notice of Adams' visit to the parish became public on social media, members who are against the visit voiced out and called on Ketu, the faction which Genesis Model Parish belongs to, to stop the thanksgiving, stating that it is against the church doctrines.

Ketu didn't blink or behaved as if it heard what was been said. Why didn't Ketu act? They did not because Ketu knows that if it condemns the thanksgiving, the Parish may prefer to join another faction or become independent. It is a known truth that Ketu and other factions cannot control the landlord shepherds in the church, as they will do to transfer shepherds.

2. Pastor Enoch Adeboye did what we failed to do

While Celestians were busy arguing for or against the thanksgiving service, the most respected Nigerian clergy, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God released a congratulatory message, felicitating with Adams and regretting his absence at the coronation ceremony.

In the message, Adeboye assured Adams of "continuous love and prayers." This most celestians didn't do while discussing about the visit.

3. What is wrong in a thanksgiving service

The sole reason Gani Adams visited the Genesis Model Parish was solely for the purpose of offering thanksgiving to God.

The visit carries a resemblance of the visit of other non members of the fold who visit various parishes of the church during notable events like the Adult Harvest Ceremonies.

It is important to note that Adams said he promised 'God' that he was going to have a thanksgiving in the parish, if his prayers of becoming the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land comes into fruition.

4. Hatred and unnecessary criticism

While it is certain that Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe is a reformist and his actions are often not acceptable to the conservatives in the church, yet a close look at the manner the castigation of the thanksgiving took, shows that most of those who criticized the visit did it out of hatred for the person of Prophet Ogundipe.

In as much as criticism is an excellent way to gauge public perception of one's action, members of the fold must do so with characters and attitudes devoid of the show of hatred.
