Rev Samuel Bilewu Oshoffa

Over time, there have always been debates for or against speaking of tongues in the Celestial Church and probably among white garment churches, as those against the idea do emphasize that the practice is borrowed from the Pentecostal Churches.

However, this reason is not true as seen in an old video released by True Celestial Legacy. In the video, the founder of the Church was been interviewed, and he was asked if he believed in the speaking of tongues.

In his response, Reverend Samuel Bilewu Oshoffa cited the opinion of Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14: 18, as the reason celestians should not speak in tongues.

He further said: "We (Celestial Church) do not speak in tongues, because we should speak a language that everyone understands. If we speak in tongues, it has no power compared to a language that we understand.

"The language that is heard (spoken by the prophet), everyone will hear and understand. Even if you are worshipping God and you are speaking in tongues, and no one understands what you are saying, so others who are there will not know you are worshipping God. Speaking in tongues is not as powerful as speaking something we all understand."
