A cross section of the youth in Church made this known at the first Annual Singles and Married Seminar organised by Area H Youth Organisation, Lagos State.
This issue was raised during the question and answer section of the programme. The youth of the Church identified that various reasons are inimical to wedding taking place in the Church.
Superior Evangelist Bola Ilori (PhD), MC Toyin Bakare and Evangelist Oloyede Raphael, all spoke at the seminar which was organised to instil the desire to have better relationships and marriages among members of the Church.
The youths complained about the near like extortion from Shepherds when they take their wedding plans to the Church.
"It is common to see Shepherds requesting that to-be husbands and wives would take up renovating responsibilities in the Church before they would be allowed to wed in the Church.
"Some Shepherd would say, you must fix the aluminum windows, while some would request that the floor should be tiled, others could request that the environs of the Church auditorium must be painted.
"Due to this, most intending couple would prefer to only observe the traditional wedding and legalize it at the registry rather than in the Church" a participant at the seminar said.
Another participant pleaded with Superior Evangelist Bola Ilori to assist in informing the Leadership of the Church to talk to Shepherds who make wedding process in Church tedious for members.
Reacting to the issue, Superior Evangelist Bola Ilori confirmed that such practise do occur, but stressed that it is not compulsory for members to engage in renovating the Parish because of wedding ceremony. He however, promised to table the issue at the meeting of Church elders in Ketu.
