On Thursday, November 12th 1981 there was an attempt to compel the founder of the Church, Reverend SBJ Oshoffa to make a pronouncement on the keeping of beards by male members of the Church.
A document of the Church seen by Celestial Church Blog shows that at a meeting of all full time workers of the church held at the Mission House in Ketu, Lagos, Nigeria, the pastor founder declared that anyone is free to keep beards, in as much as that is what they want.
In the minutes of the meeting, Assistant Adekanmbi requested for more clarification from Oshoffa on a various issues, but emphasized that Celestial Church need to make a law prohibiting or allowing members to keep beards, so as to differentiate Celestians from members of other denominations.

However, it was recorded in the minute that Oshoffa replied that, “Jesus has beard, Moses also possessed, beard has nothing to do with Celestial. I do not have beard because I do not want it. It has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. Everyone should do according to his taste.”
