A landlord shepherd is an individual who established a parish with his/her resources. This form of structure is different from a community parish which is usually controlled by a transfer shepherd, who is brought in by the Church's headquarters.

While many members have called for the eradication of the landlord parish/shepherd structure in the Church, Akinola Joshua says the Church cannot do without them.

In a comment on which form of Church structure is the best, Akinola said from experience, he observed that "some landlord shepherds are even better than the transferred ones."

He noted that the landlord shepherds structure became more common in the Church because transferred shepherds are not properly taken care of, so the landlord shepherds are more passionate and work hard to succeed.
