Christians and polygamy, why clergies with more than one wife should not lead the Church
Church clergies in a meeting
A member of the Church Solomon Okimi has listed reasons clergies who are with more than one wife should not be allowed to lead any parish.

He mentioned these reasons in a Facebook post by expunging the belief that monogamy is a borrowed culture from the westerners and not God's designed for Africans irrespective of the religion they practise.

"One wife-one husband isn't just the white man's tradition. It is God's will, it is God's tradition, it is God's design, it is how God wanted marriage to be like (Read: Genesis 1 and 2).

"From the beginning, He created them male and female (both are to unite as one). God made one woman from the bones of Adam, God didn't make two women out of Adam's bone. God didn't create them as male and females.

"The urge to satisfy human self-desires ignoring God's desires lead to polygamy union. Polygamy like divorce is a product of the hardness of man's heart."

Speaking further, Okimi quoted Matthew 19:3-6 and Matthew 19:8-9 as clear proof, why Africans who profess Christianity should not be polygamous.

Matthew 19:3-6 mentioned Christ discussions with the Pharisees, as he answered a question regarding divorce by saying, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Likewise, Jesus Christ declared in Matthew 19:8‭-‬9, that “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts, but from the beginning, it was not this way. Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except woman immorality, and marries another commits adultery.”

Okimi proceeded to list the reasons why clergies with more than one wife should not lead the Church, by making use of Apostle Paul's advice in 1 Timothy 3:1-13.

He listed the reasons as:
1. He is more concerned about his will than God's will.
2. Lacks self-control. Not being able to manage his feelings.
3. He is not faithful.
4. Will practices favouritism
5. He is a greedy soul
6. He is adulterous.
7. Lacks satisfaction.
8. He is a murderer.
9. He is self-centered; cares not about others. e.t.c
