Issues celestians discuss about regarding doctrine and tenets of Celestial
Members in a Palm Sunday procession

On and off social media, there are certain issues members of the Celestial Church of Christ argue about and would never reach a compromise until probably the leaders of the Church put their acts right. We take a look at these issues.

How to light the 7 candles on the altar

While there are two popular ways candles are litted on the 7 candle stand, there are other ways too and all of these are being condemned by the proponents of the other methods.

The two popular methods are lighting the candle from the top to the bottom starting from right to left, while another method is where the candles are litted from the bottom starting from the least on the right and left side then upwards.

Till this very moment candles on the seven candle altar are litted in accordance with the belief of the person lighting it irrespective of what he is been told to do.

Polygamy

Officially, the Church irrespective of faction has never condemned instances of some male members, most especially clergies getting married to more than one wife. Almost all the pastoral claimants in the Church are with more than one wife.

It is shamefully to see clergies and members alike supporting and posting social media content, articles and videos in support of polygamy. While it is good to note that the majority of the Church is against polygamy, a vocal few are fully in support, and this often causes argument when the issue is being discussed.

Who is the authentic pastor of the Church?

Since the demise of the Church's founder and initial pastor of the Church, Reverend Samuel Bilewu Oshoffa there have been squabbles, as various members have laid claim to the pastoral seat of the Church. With the Church being factionalized into various groups, members have pitched their tents under different pastors namely:

 (i) Ketu under Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa

(ii) Reverend Gabriel Beni Omoge of Nigerian Diocese

(iii) Ijesha under late Reverend Owodunni

 (iv) Imala under Reverend Shonekan

 (v) Port Novo under Reverend Ajose Adeogun

 (vi) Ibadan under Reverend Pascal

(vii) Reverend Orovboni

(viii) Rev Sylvanus Akintope Paul Tiwo.

It is important to note that there are many more who regards themselves as pastor of the Church, aside from those listed above. The supporters of these claimants would always argue and often throw abusive words at each other. In recent times, Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa and Gabriel Oshoffa have the most vocal members on social media when it comes to the pastoral tussle.

The Church Doctrine and the Bible

Without a doubt, the Celestial Church of Christ is a Bible-believing Church, but some members tend to fanatically believe that the practice of the Church Doctrines should be superior to the Bible. This often leads to arguments with members who have liberal stance.
